A WWE Hall of Famer could return during one of the company’s biggest events of the year. With SummerSlam just around the corner, a new report suggests WWE is discussing an on-screen role for a familiar face. Nevertheless, plans have reportedly not been finalized.
If the appearance happens, it would mark a fitting return in front of a hometown crowd. There is no question that it would bring another layer of nostalgia to the premium live event.
Jesse Ventura reportedly in contention for a WWE SummerSlam pre-show role
According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, WWE has invited Hall of Famer Jesse Ventura to attend SummerSlam in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The report states that company officials have also discussed using “The Body” on television, most likely as part of the pre-show.
However, the report notes that no final decision has been made. Moreover, it remains unclear whether Ventura will ultimately appear on the broadcast.
Should the plans move forward, it would be Ventura’s first appearance at a WWE event in his home state since SummerSlam 1999. That night, he served as the special guest referee for the WWF Championship match involving Steve Austin, The Rock, and Mick Foley. Sometimes wrestling comes full circle — and this could be another example of history stepping back through the curtain.
Ventura has remained in the headlines outside of WWE as well. During an appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored, he criticized President Donald Trump’s place in the WWE Hall of Fame.
Despite those public comments, the latest report indicates WWE has still extended an invitation for SummerSlam and has internally discussed giving the Hall of Famer an on-screen role.
For now, Ventura’s involvement remains unconfirmed. SummerSlam takes place on August 1 and 2 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, and fans will have to wait until the weekend to see whether “The Body” makes his long-awaited return to WWE television.
