Jimmy Uso may not be thinking about retirement anytime soon. Nevertheless, the longtime WWE star already knows what will tell him it’s time to step away.
Ahead of another SummerSlam appearance, the nine-time WWE Tag Team Champion reflected on the feeling that has kept his passion for wrestling alive throughout his career.
Speaking with Sports Illustrated, Uso explained that while championships are rewarding, they aren’t what continues to drive him every time he walks through the curtain.
Jimmy Uso says losing his excitement would signal retirement
Uso credited his family as the biggest reason he remains motivated after spending years at the highest level of WWE.
“What really keeps me going is… family. When I show up to work, I’m very spoiled, bro. I’m very blessed. I get to go home to my family, be loved, and I get to jump on the road with my other family and be loved.”
The Bloodline member admitted he still experiences the same nerves before every match, saying that feeling has never disappeared despite years of competing on wrestling’s biggest stages.
“I still get that same nervous feeling every time I go out there to the ring… I still get that first debut feeling.”
For Uso, that’s the clearest sign that he still belongs in the business. However, he also knows exactly when he’ll begin thinking about retirement.
“Soon as that nervous feeling starts to leave or that voice kind of quiet down, then I think that might be that time to kind of step away.”
Uso also addressed his singles career, revealing that he doesn’t feel defined by championship success.
“A title don’t necessarily need to be around my waist for me to feel like I made it already… But if the opportunity presents itself, please believe I will grab that ball and I’m running with it.”
Before retirement becomes a serious discussion, Uso has some immediate concern to address. On Night One of SummerSlam 2026, he will team with Jey Uso and Jacob Fatu to represent The Bloodline against Solo Sikoa, LA Knight, and Royce Keys. For now, the butterflies are still flying. As any WWE fan knows, that’s often the best sign the tank still has plenty left in it.
