AEW Dynamite Results:

This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite kicks off with an announcement that the Death Riders took out HOOK before the show went on the air, and tonight’s main event is a handicap match. They go right to the ring for the Women’s Owen Hart Cup match between Athena and Mercedes Moné.

Women’s Owen Hart Cup Tournament: Mercedes Moné vs. Athena

  • The finish of the match saw Mercedes Moné reverse Athena’s O-Face with a backward bridge to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Mercedes Moné

After the match, Timeless Toni Storm and Luther appear in the crowd as she and Mercedes have a staredown.

Grade: A-

A great way to kick off Dynamite tonight. The Boston crowd was hot and ready to see Mercedes compete. Both women brought their A game tonight. This was an excellent match. I hope to see these two compete against each other again very soon!

The Elite try to patch things up with Hangman Page

Hangman Page is backstage with Renee Paquette. Before Hangman can talk about his match with the Wild Card later tonight, he’s approached by The Elite, who try to patch things up with him. The Young Bucks say they can fix things between him and the Death Riders and that Hangman can bring the AEW World Title back to The Elite.

The Young Bucks leave, and Okada asks Hangman why he’s always so angry and says he should smile more. Hangman walks away and Okada calls him a bitch. Page comes back, and Okada backs down.

Josh Alexander is revealed as the Wild Card for the match against Hangman Page.

Men’s Owen Hart Cup Tournament: Hangman Page vs. Josh Alexander

  • The finish of the match saw Hangman Page catch Josh Alexander with a flash inside cradle to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Hangman Page

After the match, Kyle Fletcher and Don Callis make their way to the ring to confront Hangman. Page gets the better of Fletcher, but Callis spoke to Alexander on the floor, who came in and attacked Hangman from behind. It appears we may have a new member of the Don Callis Family. Fletcher picked up the pieces and hit Page with the sheer drop brainbuster.

Grade: B+

Very good match. I wish the match had more time. Not overly thrilled with back-to-back matches ending in rollup variations, but it is what it is. Hangman and Fletcher should have a great match in the semi-finals.

What’s next for The Patriarchy…?

Nick Wayne, Kip Sabian, and Mother Wayne are backstage. Wayne starts to speak, but he’s interrupted by a returning Christian Cage. The two have words, and Wayne accuses Cage of not sticking to the plan because he wouldn’t be able to live with himself if Cope won the AEW World Title before him. Cage says Wayne is wrong and accuses him of assuming things.

Cage claims he got Wayne his spot in the Best of the Super Juniors tournament in New Japan and says he will face Komander tomorrow night on Collision for the Ring of Honor Television Title. Christian smacks Wayne and walks away with Sabian. Mother Wayne goes to console her son, but Cage calls her way too, leaving him alone.

AEW World Tag Team Championship: The Hurt Syndicate (c) (w/ MVP) vs. Gates of Agony

  • The finish of the match saw Bobby Lashley hit Bishop Kaun with the Spear to score the pinfall victory for his team.

Winners: And still AEW World Tag Team Champions, The Hurt Syndicate

After the match, MJF comes to the ring with a microphone. Friedman tries to convince Lashley and Benjamin that he brings a lot to the table and antagonises Lashley in the process. MJF tries to bring a lot of women out to the ring to entice The Hurt Syndicate into letting him join.

MVP says yes. Benjamin teases that he’ll say yes if MJF gives him his watch, but says no again. MJF says he thinks he’s growing on Benjamin and gives him the watch and the women anyway. Friedman says Lashley is the Almighty, but he always gets what he wants, and he will be a member of The Hurt Syndicate.

Grade: B

Look, something has to change with the booking of The Hurt Syndicate’s title reign. I know Gates of Agony look like threats, but they haven’t been treated as such in a long time. Lashley and Benjamin taking so long to beat these guys isn’t a good look. They were much more dominant before they won the titles. The closing moments of the match were promising, but this match should have been way shorter than it was.

MVP pleads his case to Bobby Lashley

The Hurt Syndicate are backstage after the match. MVP asks Lashley to ease up on MJF for a bit and if he steps out of line he can hurt him.

Men’s Owen Hart Cup Tournament: Will Ospreay vs. Konosuke Takeshita (w/ Don Callis)

  • The finish of the match saw Will Ospreay hit Konosuke Takeshita with Stormbreaker to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Will Ospreay

Grade: A

Loved this match. I know Ospreay has said that he’s scaled back his television matches, but when he turns it on, there are very few in this industry that can touch him. As far as the tournament goes, we don’t need Fletcher and Ospreay again, so the finals should absolutely be Ospreay and Hangman. That should be a lot of fun!

Powerhouse Hobbs is revealed as The Opps’ tag team partner for the main event.

AEW World Trios Championship: Death Riders (c) (w/ Marina Shafir) vs. Samoa Joe, Katsuyori Shibata, and Powerhouse Hobbs

  • The closing minutes of the match saw The Young Bucks try to interfere, but were attacked by Swerve Strickland. The finish of the match saw Samoa Joe choke out Jon Moxley to win the match for his team.

Winners: And NEW AEW World Trios Champions, The Opps and Powerhouse Hobbs

Grade: A

The locker room clears out, and everyone celebrates the new Trios Champions as AEW Dynamite goes off the air.

AEW Dynamite Review:

This was a fantastic show from top to bottom. I pretty much loved everything on this show, outside of one minor exception. The Owen Hart Cup matches were all outstanding, and getting titles off the Death Riders in the main event was the icing on the cake. Congrats to Dynamite for surpassing WCW Nitro. Here’s to many more years to come!
