Bayley looks to prove she is better than Nia Jax at SummerSlam.
WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard spoke with Bayley about her WWE Women’s Championship match with Nia Jax at SummerSlam. Since returning to WWE, Jax has received praise for her improvement in the ring. Some fans believe she deserved to win Queen Of The Ring, and others see her ending Bayley’s title reign this weekend.
Bayley was asked about that dynamic as a champion going into a title defense, as she was in a similar situation against IYO SKY at WrestleMania, although she was favored. Bayley said she loves an underdog, but if Nia is as good in the ring as they say, fans can watch her be better.
“Well for one, I love an underdog. I think it’s easy to cheer for an underdog, if that’s what people [feel]. ‘It’s her time.’ I think it’s cool for everybody to want different things,” Bayley explained. “And to me, it’s just like, well if she’s getting better, then watch me beat her. If she’s improving so much, watch how much better I am than her.
“I think it’s interesting, we as wrestling fans always go back and forth. It’s like a ‘you want what you can’t have’ [situation] and it’s only natural,” she continued, “but it doesn’t affect me too much. I would say for me, when I was going into WrestleMania or the Royal Rumble when people were actually wanting me to win, that actually did boost my confidence and it did make me feel like, ‘Hey, maybe I do deserve it.’ Maybe it’s not just me in my mirror telling myself these things. They actually see [what I see in myself]. It just shows how observant our wrestling fans are.”
Stay tuned for our full interview with Bayley. She will defend the WWE Women’s Championship against Nia Jax at SummerSlam on Saturday, August 3.
