Eddie Kingston: Terry Funk Evolved And Did It The Right Way; That’s Why He Inspires Me

Eddie Kingston has been greatly inspired by Terry Funk‘s legendary career.

All Elite Wrestling‘s Eddie Kingston recently sat down with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard. When asked about Terry Funk and how he inspired him to get into the world of pro wrestling, Kingston spoke about some more underappreciated things from Funk’s career.

“Yeah, cause sometimes they see certain matches, and they’ll say stuff like maybe they weren’t the best technical matches or whatever. It was later in his career. And people say that and go like, ‘How do you say he is the GOAT?’ And I look at them and go, ‘My man changed with the business every generation. All the people that you think are the GOATs didn’t do that; he did.’

“He changed with every generation and got over with every generation. He helped companies, he didn’t hurt companies. And he didn’t hurt guys; he made guys; he did it the right way. And that’s what I look up to the most. Besides his matches, it’s the fact that he did this business the right way. And that’s what I want to do. That’s why he inspires me.

“When there’s days when I lose my sh*t and just flip out, legit, Terry Funk is one of the people I think about besides my mother and father. Terry Funk would just handle this like a pro. And that’s what he did. That’s why he’s the GOAT. Besides the in-ring stuff, it’s the outside the ring. I don’t think I’ve heard anyone say a bad word about him. And that’s hard to do in this business cause you have so many different personalities.”

Kingston knows there are people in the wrestling business that don’t like him. However, he takes it in stride because that probably means he doesn’t like them either, with good reason.

Eddie Kingston wants nothing to do with people who don’t like Terry Funk

Kingston also made it clear if he ran into someone in the industry who has a crossword regarding Terry Funk, they aren’t someone he wants to mess with.

“No, because I don’t respect their opinion,” Eddie Kingston said. “That’s it. You don’t like Terry Funk? You don’t think he is at least in the top three or something? Then I can’t mess with you. I can’t mess with your opinion about pro wrestling, let alone life.”
