A new championship match has been confirmed for NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18 on January 4.
New Japan Pro-Wrestling announced that IWGP Tag Team Champions Bishamon (Hirooki Goto and YOSHI-HASHI) will face NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Team Champions Hikuleo and El Phantasmo at the show. Both sets of tag team titles will be on the line.
The announcement came after Bishamon beat Hikuleo and Phantasmo in the NJPW World Tag League finals on December 10. Hikuleo and Phantasmo previously beat Bishamon during the round-robin portion of the tournament.
In the announcement, NJPW noted that the IWGP Tag Team Championship has changed hands every year in the Tokyo Dome since 2013. Meanwhile, the World Tag League winners have won at all but one Wrestle Kingdom in the last decade.
Bishamon won the tag titles by defeating FTR at Wrestle Kingdom 17. They lost the gold at Sakura Genesis but later regained it at NJPW Dominion.
