Tony D’Angelo has been preparing to play his NXT character for his entire life.
NXT Tag Team Champions Tony D’Angelo and Stacks were recent guests on Busted Open Radio. When asked to describe how easily their characters come to them, D’Angelo reveals he comes from an Italian family.
“I come from an Italian family,” Tony D’Angelo said. “I’m Sicilian, so I’ve been doing this kind of my whole life. I have uncles that sound like that, and I’m kind of making fun of them. That’s how I started doing it growing up. I’ve been preparing for this pretty much my whole life, not on purpose.
“I never knew this was what I was gonna do, but that’s why I think it comes off so natural to me. It’s real. Obviously, the whole mobster thing, blah blah blah, but the Italian part, it’s as true as it can get.”
Stacks revealed that he watched a lot of Sopranos and Goodfellas growing up, and that kind of stuff is in the back of his mind when he performs this character.
“I grew up watching ‘Sopranos,’ ‘Goodfellas, and I think the minute we got together, it was having that stuff in the back of our mind, and we’re just going into these interactions with Gallus, all that,” Stacks said. “It is what it is.”
