We’re back with our weekly review of WWE NXT.
This week’s episode featured two NXT Women’s North American Championship qualifying matches. The main event, on the other hand, saw a surprise title change.
That said, here are the biggest hits and misses from the May 14, 2024, episode of NXT.
Miss – Noam Dar ‘out indefinitely’
Noam Dar was scheduled to face Je’Von Evans this week on WWE NXT. However, Dar was seen in a rough shape at the beginning of this week’s episode. Later, we learned Dar would be out of action indefinitely. Oro Mensah ended up subbing for his ‘injured’ partner.
It is unknown if Dar’s injury is a work or he is the latest WWE superstar to pick up an injury. Stars such as Drew McIntyre, Zelina Vega, Bobby Lashley, and Asuka have been hit by the injury big in the last couple of weeks.
Hit – Sol Snatcher for the win
Sol Ruca topped the NXT Women’s Combine last week at the WWE Performance Center. She took on Izzi Dame in the Women’s North American Championship qualifier this week. Izzi’s former tag team partner and RAW superstar Kiana James gave a prep talk in the lead-up to the match.
Sol showcased her athleticism while Izzi used her size and strength to her advantage. Sol delivered the finisher of the night when she used Izzi’s shoulders to proper herself in the air for an assisted Sol Snatcher. It’s great to see wrestlers get creative with their finishers. Sol moves to the next round following her win over Izzi Dame.
Miss – Good Brothers vs. Ridge Holland & Riley Osborne on WWE NXT
The Good Brothers’ WWE NXT run has been a miss thus far. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson claimed NXT Tag Team Champions Axiom and Nathan Frazer were ducking them. The segment also featured Ridge Holland.
Holland would eventually team up with Chase U’s Riley Osborne to take on The Good Brothers. Nothing special about the action that ended with a win for Gallows and Anderson. Osborne apologized for costing them the match in a backstage segment.
It looks like we are getting a Ridge Holland and Chase U partnership storyline.
Hit – Je’Von Evans soars
Oro Mensah replaced Noam Dar in singles action against Je’Von Evans. This was a solid back-and-forth match between two high-flyers. Evans delivered some amazing aerial offense. He got a pretty good hangtime with the top rope dive to the outside.
We also got a little cameo from NXT Champion Trick Williams, who stopped Lash Legend from helping Mensah, allowing Evans to pick up the win. After the match, Williams entered the ring to celebrate with Evans.
Miss – Carlee Bright vs. Lola Vice on WWE NXT
A short match with a decisive outcome for Lola Vice. I am still not a fan of Miss Vice’s dance routine. Natalya and Karmen Petrovic had a run-in after the match. The duo challenged Vice and Shayna Baszler to a tag team match for next Tuesday.
Hit – New NXT Heritage Cup Champion
The Family paid NXT GM Ava $20,000 for kidnapping Damon Kemp and Myles Borne from the parking lot last week. Tony D’Angelo promised no underhand tactics during his NXT Heritage Cup match against Charlie Dempsey.
The Don went on to pick up the win, his first singles title victory in WWE. He is a former two-time NXT Tag Team Champion with Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo. Let’s see if Dempsey invokes his rematch clause next week on NXT.
Miss – Gallus is back… on WWE NXT
Gallus took out Josh Briggs, Ivar and Wes Lee following the main event match between Tony D’Angelo and Charlie Dempsey. The trio were last seen in action on the February 13, 2024, episode of WWE NXT.
I’m a fan of Gallus but don’t see the point of keeping them in NXT. They should’ve moved to the main roster as part of the 2024 WWE Draft. I was hoping for faction featuring Drew McIntyre, Joe Coffey, Mark Coffey, and Wolfgang.
Guess we’ll have to wait and see what’s next for Gallus on WWE NXT.
