Macaulay Culkin of “Home Alone” fame is a known wrestling fan; he has shared his thoughts on the WWE product in the past. Many fans still remember how he was critical of the Super ShowDown event in 2020, where Goldberg infamously defeated The Fiend.
During a recent appearance on the Wrestling with Freddie podcast, Culkin talked about the wide world of sports entertainment with former WWE writer and fellow acting star Freddie Prinze Jr. When asked why he never joined the company as a writer, Culkin noted that he wanted to, but he never found the right time to do so. That being said, he stated that he thought of some “really great” ideas for the Bray Wyatt character at one point in time.
“There were times where I wanted to, like kinda just find six months of my life at the very least to kinda go in there and stuff,” said Culkin. “I will say, I do kind of regret not doing that. Like now that I’m a dad and stuff like that, man, I barely have time to pee at this point in my life, you know what I mean? But yeah I just never got around to it [kind of] thing, there was always something.
“Next thing I know I’m on the road being in a pizza band or something, you know what I’m saying? Then I moved to France for five years and stuff like that. Also, I came up with some really great like Bray Wyatt story angles like alone in my room in Paris, man. I really wanted to….”
Though Culkin didn’t officially work for WWE, he described how he served as a consultant at one point, as he gave the company some feedback when they looked his direction. He specifically described how he suggested the promotion should differentiate WWE RAW and SmackDown beyond their identities as the red and blue show, respectively. But he briefly recalled how Kevin Dunn and WWE refused to do so.
“They called me up for like consultation kind of stuff,” said Culkin. “Yeah, kind of just, ‘What do you think would make the brand better? What about…’, and I think they might have like done one or two things that I was like, I’m not saying I came up with it or nothing, but at the same time, I was like, oh there you go. You know, but I [was] just like, ‘Hey, you know why don’t we make the shows slightly different? Because I mean, just one’s blue and one’s red.’ You know, god bless [WWE Executive Producer & Chief, Global Television Distribution] Kevin Dunn, but you know, and it’s like, ‘Nope, nope, nope,’ like, ‘This is our product.'”
Culkin also praised Dunn before he emphasized his belief that WWE should make their primary shows look more unique.
“He’s really good at what he does,” said Culkin. “Far better it from me to criticize anything he’s saying. I’m just saying, ‘Well can we do something that’s even just visually different, you know?’ Things like that.”
Prinze Jr. recently commented on his experience on the WWE writing team and described how the company makes you “earn respect.”
