The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the recently sold out NJPW/ROH G-1 Special at Madison Square Garden can be considered a double loss for WWE CEO Vince McMahon.

According to the Observer,

“The first loss is when, after successfully blocking the show, Madison Square Garden had to back down to legal threats and give ROH and NJPW the date. The second loss was when tickets were put on sale, and it was clear there was more demand for the show than any WWE show in the world’s most famous arena in a several years.”

The April 6th show is the first wrestling show to sell out Madison Square Garden in nearly three years. This includes numerous WWE shows that failed to sell the building out.

The Observer also reports that the G-1 Special will become the first non-Vince McMahon promoted North American wrestling show to earn a $1 million gate.
