WWE Executive and on-air COO Triple H recently spoke to SkySports via their SkySports Lock Up podcast and discussed the possibility of the UK hosting a WWE PPV, something that British wrestling fans in particular have been chomping at the bit to see. We’ve included some highlights below. To listen to the full podcast, click HERE.
On The UK Getting To Host A WWE PPV In The Near Future:
“You guys are obsessed with that… and you should be! Yes, I think this is an open opportunity for all the markets outside of the US. Obviously, the time frame for when we run things in the US doesn’t work for a lot of places in the world. This opens up a lot of opportunities to put things in localized time formats for the rest of the globe, especially the UK where the desire is very high. We’ve attempted doing things there in the past. The Network is still very new and for us, in some ways, as technology improves with the Network, getting things down to where we can do them in a reasonable manner with a reasonable cost, in a reasonable time slot in the world, is really where it’s all about to us but it is definitely something we’re working towards.”
On Frustration With Fans That Can’t Understand The Challenges Involved
“You know, when people say to us, ‘I don’t understand, just do the show’…we run 560 live events a year. We do an average of 9-10 live events a week. They are planned out, a year sometimes or longer, in advance. Putting those pieces together, one change dramatically affects the entire puzzle. So it’s just a process that we’re going through, but absolutely. We will get there. It’s just that, for everybody that’s waiting, it seems to be forever, but we will get there, I promise.
On The Key Obstacles That Need To Be Overcome For The UK To Get A PPV
“Well, I think it’s more a matter of – there’s a lot of aspects to it. It’s bandwidth, it’s…by ‘bandwidth’, I don’t mean technically, I mean, of the company. It’s getting the right people in the right places to put on an event of a strong enough caliber, to be able to have it be meaningful to the rest of the globe as well, even in that timeslot. To be able to do it in a cost-effective manner that, you’re actually able to do it in a meaningful business sense. Those are all factors that are involved in it. And having the infrastructure to be able to do it internationally. There’s a lot of balls in the air, so to speak, on us getting all this stuff done and it’s just been a matter of organizing them and as things come up, you’re trying to do all that while still running a pay-per-view or two every month, you’re trying to do all that and still run live television every single week. RAW, SmackDown, everything else we do. So it just takes us some time. It’s not a matter of “if” we can overcome the obstacles, it’s just a matter of “when” and getting them all lined up.
