It was an emotional night in Reseda this Friday, as the “Kentucky Gentlemen” Chuck Taylor completed his nine-year journey to the PWG World Championship. Sexy Chuckie T defeated Zack Sabre Jr. in a main event contest spanning nearly 30 minutes to capture the gold; his first title with a promotion for which he has been a mainstay for over half his career.
It has been a banner year for Taylor, who had just made his debut with Ring of Honor back in May and returned to wrestle for the ROH World Tag Team Championships at last month’s Best in the World pay-per-view.
With this win he joins the ranks of former PWG champions including WWE Superstars Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Cesaro, Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles, as well as Kenny Omega and Adam Cole. In fact, that tiny Los Angeles promotion has become something of a barometer for future mainstream stars, as nearly 90% of its former world champions have gone on to sign with WWE, Impact Wrestling or New Japan Pro Wrestling.
Congrats to @SexyChuckieT. Very happy for him and much deserved.
