As noted, this week’s WWE Off The Top Rope guests are WWE Smackdown Live tag team American Alpha, Chad Gable and Jason Jordan.
The duo joined Jonathan Coachman on ESPN Sportscenter tonight to talk about being drafted to WWE Smackdown Live,
Jordan says he’d like to say he knew they’d get called up, but it was still surreal to hear their names called, and it was big because he’d been in NXT for five years at that point. Gable talks about the differences between NXT and Smackdown, saying you need to know where to fit in, and Jordan talks about getting into a routine for the gym and meals, and staying in sync with each other.
Coachman asks about their amateur wrestling history, and Gable says the big difference is the crowd involvement, because it took a long time to let the fans in. Jordan agrees and says as an amateur wrestler you wanted to block that out, but you learn to feed off of it and now they can help but enjoy the responses.
Jordan is asked about how the partnership was proposed, and Jordan says he had a few teammates before but they didn’t work, and Gable kept insisting they team up. Jordan says he finally gave in and said he’d give Gable a shot, then they saw that the chemistry was there immediately. Jordan says he knew from the first time they teamed up that they had something, and Gable agrees and says they clicked from the start and they are very fortunate.
Gable talks about his previous experience in competing at the Olympics (London), and he says it was a capstone, and it was the most incredible experience. He says it was great to see so many top athletes at their peak, and he got to share it with his family.
Coach asks about their American Alpha name, and Gable says there was so much talent in NXT, and they thought they were the best, and they needed to go declare it. They already thought they were the ‘alphas’ of NXT, and Jordan adds that they wrestled collegiately, so it just made sense. Coach then thanks them for appearing and closes out the segment.
