Davey Richards Expected Return Date
TNA Tag Team Champion Davey Richards noted on Twitter that he is already doing physical therapy, and should only see 4-6 weeks away from the ring. While he will definitely miss the upcoming tour of Japan with Wrestle-1 – Tigre Uno will be replacing him – Richards is expected back in action for the October Bound for Glory PPV. There is a chance, although we won’t know until much close to the date, that he could even make it back in time for the next set of television tapings in late September.
The reason why TNA is not mentioning, and likely will not mention Richards’ injury on television or on their website, is that he’s already taped matches that will air through the end of September. With having so much time to feel things out and make the right call, it’s not likely we’ll know the future of the TNA tag titles for at least a month.
Update on Alberto del Rio’s Status
The current situation with former WWE Superstar Alberto del Rio – now working in Mexico as Alberto “El Patron” – is that because he was terminated for unprofessional behavior, WWE can and has demanded a year-long ban on pro wrestling, sports entertainment, MMA and Ultimate Fighting in the United States, and a 90-day non-compete outside of the U.S. Furthermore, because he was fired for assaulting another employee, Alberto will not be receiving any royalties, severance pay, or his downside guarantee.
Del Rio will be working with a lawyer, as he currently lives in the United States, and believes that being banned from his profession for an entire year is completely unjust and will not hold up in court, particularly since WWE will not be paying him anything going forward. He has also noted that he will begin doing autograph signings and wrestling appearances soon, and it can be argued that appearing and getting physical at AAA TripleMania last Sunday was an obvious breach of his current limitations.
