The Wrestling Observer is reporting that WWE WrestleMania 28 is expected to be the first pro wrestling event in history to bring in an $8.5 million gate. At this point, the April 4, 1998 Japanese event at The Tokyo Dome, which featured Antonio Anoki's retirement match, is the number one grossing gate, taking in $7 million. This event will become the number 2 pro wrestling event in terms of gate if projections for WrestleMania 28 remain accurate.
The most WWE has ever brought in for a live event was last year for WrestleMania 27, which took in a gate of $6,268,391. Again, if the projections for next year's event turn out to be accurate, then last year's WrestleMania will take the number two spot within WWE.
