Former ROH & Chikara Star Larry Sweeney Passes Away

Former Ring of Honor and Chikara wrestler and manager, Larry Sweeney (real name: Alex Whybrow), passed away this morning.  Whybrow was found dead in his home in Lake Charles, Louisiana.  He was just 29 years old.

Chris Hero, independent wrestler and close friend of Whybrow’s posted the following on his official Twitter page:

"We lost a dedicated friend and an overwhelmingly talented performer this morning. Alex Whybrow aka "Sweet & Sour" Larry Sweeney has passed. We spent a few yrs together on the road & Alex was gifted beyond measure. He could enthrall you with colorful stories from his personal life or he could captivate thousands with his undeniable charisma. I loved him & my heart is with his family, friends & his countless fans. First he was my student & he transcended that almost immediately. I will forever cherish our in depth conversations & time spent together."

Reports at this point indicate that the cause of Whybrow’s death was self-inflicted and many note that he had been battling a lot of personal issues for quite some time.  He was also bi-polar and while that caused Whybrow to act out negatively at times, friends close to him say that’s what also made him such a creative and eclectic person and performer.

Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com wrote a great article on Sweeney and his impact on friends and co-workers alike. I recommend you check it out whether you know of Larry Sweeney or not.

WrestleZone.com would like to send our our sincere and deepest condolences to the friends and family of Alex Whybrow during this difficult times in their lives.
