Aleister Black has impressed WWE officials since returning to the company after his time in AEW.
According to PWInsider, WWE’s creative team have started strongly supporting Aleister Black. It looks like WWE may give him a major push on SmackDown soon. Source mentioned that WWE officials have had more talks lately about moving Black into the main event scene.
These are the same sources who previously predicted Damian Priest’s rise to the top of the card. Now, they believe that the former AEW star could be next in line for that kind of push on WWE SmackDown. Source mentioned WWE has talked a lot backstage about giving Black a bigger role in the coming weeks and months.
The report didn’t mention exact plans for Black. However, the company is currently happy with how he’s been performing and that’s why Black has been interacting with more personalities lately. The company is also happy with merchandise sales since his return.
Even before Aleister Black made his WWE return earlier this year, reports revealed that several “influential people” in WWE were already backing him. They viewed the former AEW star as a future top singles star. With the company already planning a major push for him on WWE SmackDown, the move seems like a natural progression.
The push already seems to be in motion, as Aleister Black recently had a heated confrontation with Ron Killings. Killings attacked Kit Wilson, who was scheduled to face Black in a singles match, before the match even began.
Aleister Black breaks silence on WWE return under Triple H & Nick Khan leadership
Speaking on interview with the Atomic Drop newsletter, Aleister Black said his WWE return felt natural. “I’ve been thinking about that a lot and I feel like it happened very organically. I think the first day that I came back, like physically being backstage, you know, walking around and talking to people and being quote-unquote reintroduced to the company and stuff like that. It’s strange, right? Because it’s like a mixed feeling of nostalgia and familiarity whilst there is something unknown, because obviously as much as the setup is the same, internally, its guts have been like rearranged if that makes sense, because it’s no longer the same people in charge, but at the same time, it’s the same people that I connected with the first time around.”
“And I remember being very nervous, but then realizing that everything felt the same in the most positive sense and then I was like, why are you so nervous? You know all these people. And then at that point, it was really strange. It was like all my anxiety just kind of dropped. And I’m like, yeah, this time around, it’s even better, you know what I mean? Because I’ve always had a good relationship with Triple H, and I get along great with Nick Khan, and the locker room is something that I’ve always preached about, how fantastic the boys are in WWE.”
