Ronda Rousey Biopic Gets Director

For almost a decade, there have been reports that a biopic on the Baddest Woman on the Planet, ‘Rowdy’ Ronda Rousey, is in the works. Now, finally, her biopic has received its director.

Ronda Rousey is arguably the greatest UFC Fighter in the sport. Following her success in the Octagon, she made an impact in the world of professional wrestling. She is a multiple-time WWE Women’s World Champion. The Baddest Woman On The Planet is also a former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion.

In 2022, Rousey won the Royal Rumble. It is also to be noted that she is one of the three women who were part of the first-ever Women’s WrestleMania Main Event. Rousey retired from professional wrestling in 2023.

The biopic is set to be based on Ronda Rousey’s Memoir, My Fight/Your Fight and Our Fight. This memoir was published back in 2015. The former WWE Superstar co-wrote the memoir along with her sister, Maria Burns Ortiz.

Paramount was the first to get rights to the memoir. Later, due to a lot of regime changes, the rights eventually lapsed. Netflix now has the rights to the biopic. Rousey has written the script for the project. The film is produced by Chernin Entertainment. According to the latest report from Deadline, the director of the film will be Augustine Frizzell.

Frizzell has directed a couple of movies such as Never Going Back, and The Last Letter From Your Lover. She also directed the pilot episode of HBO’s Euphoria. Deadline also reported that Frizzell had impressed the entire team by sharing her vision for the film.

It is also reported that Augustine Frizzell will be directing the first four of the eight episodes of the upcoming new Netflix series, The Boroughs.
