WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre has never shied away from taking risks in the ring, but he recently revealed there’s one move he won’t try again.
In 2024, McIntyre engaged in a heated, year-long rivalry with CM Punk. Their feud included three matches, starting at SummerSlam and culminating inside Hell in a Cell at Bad Blood. McIntyre lost the final showdown in brutal fashion, receiving 16 staples in his head during the match.
Despite the severity of the injury, McIntyre didn’t consider the staples the most dangerous part of the encounter. Instead, he pointed to a moment at the end of the match when he took a direct bump onto the steel steps, landing spine-first.
During an interview on the Gorilla Position podcast, McIntyre described that he could execute the move safely, which he did. However, he admitted the risk was too high.
“I got lucky, convinced I could do it as safely as possible, and I did, but it’s not a risk I’ll ever take again. It’s the risk for that match, for that moment, and I knew in the moment like, considering, you know, the amount of blood that was going on and how it felt in there and the story we’re telling and the way things were coming off this is the match I’ve been looking for in my whole life.”
“As a kid, I used to always love those final blowoff matches. You know, the Triple H vs. Mick Foley kind of matches the final ones, just the bloodbaths, the war. And afterwards, like, my God, I’ll always remember this. And I do remember moments like that and was aware I’m having one of those right now, and for me personally, I’ll look back one day when it’s all over and go, “Wow, that was pretty cool.”
Drew McIntyre calls brutal bump a “one-and-done”
“And I know a lot of fans out there will feel the same way. Especially younger fans who were like me when I was watching as a kid. So for that match, I was willing to do something, yeah, a bit stupid, but it came off. It went as good as it can, considering it was legitimately my lower back I landed on. And, yep, it’s a one-and-done will never be done again and that match will live forever.”
