Damage CTRL: Major Backstage Update On The Group’s Future

WWE has officially moved on from Damage CTRL.

Fightful Select reports that WWE quietly disbanded the faction in early May after releasing Dakota Kai. Officials instructed talent and announcers to stop identifying the remaining members as part of the faction.

It was reported that when Kairi Sane returned from injury, WWE had already ended Damage CTRL behind the scenes. Asuka is set to make her return on RAW, but WWE has no current plans to revive the faction. However, some believe the members could still team up again once they’re cleared, and perhaps the Damage CTRL name could return in the future. As of now, Damage CTRL has been quietly disbanded.

Damage CTRL debuted at SummerSlam 2022 when Bayley returned with Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky. Kairi Sane and Asuka later joined in 2023. After Bayley won the 2024 Royal Rumble, the faction turned on her, leading to a WrestleMania 40 title match with Iyo Sky for the WWE Women’s title.

Following WrestleMania 41, Damage CTRL began to fall apart. As injuries sidelined Asuka, Kairi, and Dakota, leaving Iyo Sky as the only active member. Last month, WWE released Dakota, and although Kairi Sane has returned and Asuka is set to come back. However, the faction has now split without major fanfare.

Bayley reveals original Damage CTRL pitch & Who almost joined

Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Bayley revealed that her original pitch for Damage CTRL included five members. She planned to form the faction with Raquel Rodriguez, Alba Fyre, Toni Storm, Dakota Kai, and Iyo Sky.

“I had a whole [plan], there’s five of us, my pitch for Damage CTRL. Also had Raquel [Rodriguez] in it. I also had Alba Fyre in it, I had so many other girls in mind too. I had Toni Storm; I wanted Toni Storm in it. But when I actually sat at the [WWE] PC and shot stuff, it was with Raquel and Alba, and all five of us. I had reasons why I wanted them. Raquel was obviously our muscle, but she was teaming with Dakota at the time, I believe. So they worked out perfectly. Alba and IYO I think we’re teaming a little bit there, so they worked out perfectly. But in my mind, it was there’s two tag teams, and then IYO was my champion; she was going to be the champion.”

“I just want to do everything in wrestling,” she continued. “That’s how I always thought. I want to be a bad guy, I want to be a good guy, I want to be in a faction. I want to be in a tag team. Want to be a singles wrestler, I want to be in a romantic love angle someday. I want to be able to do everything, because there’s so many different things that we could do in this crazy world to not try different avenues and work with as many people as possible. I just want to do it.”
