Sadiq Khan is still all in on bringing WWE WrestleMania to his city.
In 2023, John Cena put out feelers for a potential future WrestleMania event in the United Kingdom’s capital of London. The following year, London Mayor Sadiq Khan met with WWE President Nick Khan as well as WWE’s Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque. All three expressed excitement at the possibility, with Sadiq additionally noting his determination to prove London as a sports capital of the world.
Despite their meeting, a concrete confirmation on WrestleMania, WWE biggest annual event, in London has yet to emerge. Still, that hasn’t stopped Sadiq Khan from continuing his efforts to make it happen.
“I was bowled over by Triple H’s enthusiasm, not just in terms of WrestleMania, but the whole team in relation to the project,” Sadiq told Tania Bryer at a SXSW London 2025 panel (h/t to CNBC for the transcript). “WWE has taken off in terms of the last few years. I mean, I now seeing John Cena in movies, not just in the ring, and I recognize that we are, particularly during the last nine years, and I’ve been mayor, now seen as the sporting capital of the world.
“Wimbledon starts very soon. We’ve got great cricket taking place. We’ve brought American football here, we’ve brought American baseball here. I’m talking to the NBA about bringing basketball to London. I’d love for WrestleMania to come to London. So Triple H, if you’re watching, we want WrestleMania to come to London.”
Sadiq Khan says London is an “obvious” choice for WrestleMania
According to Sadiq, if WrestleMania came to London, a festival of legends, currents and future stars would as well. In turn, Sadiq believes WWE would “open up a completely new market” for themselves.
“… I think the potential, has not been reached in terms of WrestleMania,” he added. “We are the sporting capital in my view, of the world. And if WrestleMania wants to expand, the obvious place to come is London.”
WrestleMania 42 was set to take place in New Orleans. However, WWE cancelled those plans and awarded multiple future events to the city, including Money In The Bank in 2026. WrestleMania 42’s location is still not confirmed, with Las Vegas being a front runner for next year’s event.
