Saraya explains why Alberto Del Rio isn’t included in Hell In Boots.
The former WWE and AEW Women’s Champion recently did an AMA-style episode of her Rulebreakers podcast. During the conversation, Saraya was asked what didn’t make the cut for her new book. Saraya said “a relationship” was omitted, largely due to her not wanting that relationship to overshadow the rest of her story.
“A relationship didn’t make the book, just because I feel like people would focus more on that relationship than the entirety of my book. So I opted out of talking about it for now,” Saraya said. “There’s things that I just didn’t remember. Writing a book is really fuckin’ hard, dude. You forget a lot of shit that happened in your life, and then you speak to someone and you’re like, ‘Holy shit, yeah, I remember that.’ So yeah, there’s a lot of things that I wish I put in there, but second book, let’s go, brother!”
Saraya didn’t mention Alberto Del Rio by name on the podcast, just like she didn’t directly mention him in her book. Saraya alluded to “living in Texas” a few times in the book, but never mentions Alberto by name. She also doesn’t discuss the publicized details about their rocky relationship, which included a 2017 domestic battery incident at Orlando International Airport. In 2020, she told the GAW podcast about some of the abuse she suffered, but said he was like Voldemort to her, and would “never say his name again.”
Saraya would like to write a second book
Saraya discusses a multitude of incidents she overcame in her life, and discusses her relationship with her now-ex-boyfriend, Ronnie Radke. In a recent interview with WrestleZone, Saraya said that she intentionally didn’t tell every story, so that she didn’t overload the reader… and she wants to save something for a second book.
“I am shocked at how great I remember things [considering the damage I’ve done to my memory over the years]. So, [stories in the book range] from a very young age, up until AEW, I won the Women’s Championship, which I thought was the perfect little ending for it,” she said. “But, things have just changed since then. So, I need to do a second book or something. I just wanted to tell my story because a lot of people out there, they have an opinion about how I am or they tell my story for me. And it’s not accurate. Or you know, they think they know some things they don’t.
“So, I want to kind of clear the air on some things. I took some stories out because there is like so much to digest here. There’s so much to process that I didn’t want to throw too much at a reader,” Saraya added. “Because it was already at one point where I’ve done these media calls. And a lot of people [said], ‘I had to put the book down.’ So, I was like, it was a lot to process. And so, I was happy that I didn’t include a lot of these extra stories because that would just send someone into a spiral.”
Saraya’s book, Hell in Boots: Clawing My Way Through Nine Lives, is available now.
