One of the biggest surprises at WrestleMania 41 was the appearance of TNA World Heavyweight Champion Joe Hendry. He answered Randy Orton’s open challenge.
Recently, while speaking to Chris Van Vliet on his Insight podcast, Joe Hendry reflected on his match with Orton. The Prestigious One revealed that he knew about his WrestleMania debut about a week ago. He also mentioned that since he was already booked to make an appearance at the WWE World, people were not surprised that he was in Las Vegas.
“So I heard Triple H say recently, and I don’t want to misquote, but this is what I heard him say. I heard him say that revealing things before they happen is ruining the surprise, saying how it was done afterwards is almost like just the intrigue of how that happened. So with respect for that, he’s talked about conversations we’ve had. So I will say I found out about a week before and Triple H called me personally. And I thought, because I was at WWE World.
“That’s one of the reasons it was so well hidden, because I was already booked for WWE World. So there was no shock or surprise with me being around the company. I thought I was going to be getting a promo there, maybe presenting a Slammy, something like that. And so he said, can you talk? Phone goes, and very quickly we got to, ‘So I’m sure you’re aware that Randy needs an opponent…’ And I’m in the airport, I did not think that’s what the call was going to be, and I said yes immediately,” Joe Hendry said.
