Sting is a man of the people.
Despite joining All Elite Wrestling at the age of 61, Sting wasn’t afraid to fly high and take risks, such as leaping off a balcony and crashing through glass. In fact, he says those risks had a special purpose.
“It was just a highlight, the last three years,” Sting told ScreenRant. “I didn’t want wrestling fans to say, ‘Yeah, he’s just coasting along because he can.’ I didn’t want fans to say that. I wanted them to go, ‘Oh, man, he’s pulling out all stops all the way through to the end.’ It was fun! It was fun going through tables, it was fun jumping off a balcony. It was just great, man, and surrounded by all these great young guys, young talent. An amazing run, I’m so grateful for it.”
In his first match under the AEW banner, Sting and Darby Allin faced Brian Cage and Ricky Starks in a Street Fight at AEW Revolution 2021. Three years later, Sting wrapped up his in-ring career in a tag team tornado match against The Young Bucks, with the AEW World Tag Team Championships on the line, at the 2024 Revolution pay-per-view.
In the latter, fans saw ladders, tables, and panes of glass, both of which Sting and Allin smashed through. Still, Allin and Sting remained resilient and retained the AEW Tag Team Championships, sending “The Icon” off into the sunset with championship gold.
