WWE SmackDown Card

The announced card is as follows:

  • Aleister Black vs. The Miz
  • Randy Orton is scheduled to appear

WWE SmackDown Results:

This week’s episode of SmackDown kicks off with Damian Priest backstage getting in a shoving battle with Jacob Fatu and stating that he’s coming for his title. LA Knight walks past the two men and makes his way to the ring. His match against Priest is seemingly kicking off tonight’s show.

But first, Knight is gonna cut a promo. Knight says that last week, he came to the ring and said that he wanted his rematch for the United States Championship, but was told he had to compete in a number one contenders match instead.

Knight blames not getting his rematch on Priest getting involved. Priest makes his way to the ring and says Knight is right and he doesn’t have a problem with him, putting all the blame on Drew McIntyre. Priest says he just came out last week to shut McIntyre up.

Knight says he understands that, but he picked the wrong time, and now he doesn’t have a shot at the United States Title. Priest says that with Solo getting involved, all he ended up doing was preventing Knight from getting pinned by a Claymore last week.

The two start playing the blame game back and forth. Both Priest and Knight are blaming each other for their problems right now. Priest says their match is later on tonight, but there’s no reason to wait. Knight agrees, and a referee comes to the ring to get this match started.

Our opening contest…

LA Knight vs. Damian Priest

  • The finish of the match saw Solo Sikoa get involved and attack Damian Priest at ringside, leading to a disqualification.

Winner: Damian Priest (via disqualification)

After the match, Sikoa attacks Knight as well. However, Knight and Priest gang up and take down Sikoa. Priest was set to put Sikoa through the commentator table with South of Heaven, but Jacob Fatu hit the ring to even the odds. Fatu and Sikoa stand tall at the end of the brawl.

Grade: B

The match was trending in a very good direction. Had we gotten an actual finish, it could have easily been a B+ or higher. However, that DQ finish didn’t go over great with me. So I’m dropping it down to a B.

Fraxiom are excited to be on SmackDown

Fraxiom are backstage with Byron Saxton. Axiom says they are happy to be on SmackDown as it has the best tag division on the planet. They are interrupted by Pretty Deadly, and a tag match is set up between the two teams.

Pretty Deadly vs. Fraxiom

  • The finish of the match saw Fraxiom hit Kit Wilson with a double team maneuver to score the pinfall victory.

Winners: Fraxiom

Grade: B-

The match was fine. But Elton Prince getting busted open the hard way sent this match riding off the rails. This wasn’t as good as the type of match you could expect from Fraxiom on NXT over the last year.

Chelsea Green certainly isn’t handling her loss well

Backstage, Nick Aldis is talking to Michin and B-Fab. The duo requests a shot at the Women’s Tag Team Titles when Liv Morgan comes back from filming her movie. Chelsea Green, Piper Niven, and Alba Fyre come in. Green is visibly upset about her loss last week and is wearing clothes as if she were at a funeral. Green requests a recount (rematch), and Aldis says they can talk about that later, as Zelina Vega has a match with Piper Niven tonight.

Who will get the next title shot at Tiffany Stratton?

Nia Jax comes to the ring and explains her actions against Tiffany Stratton last week, saying she’s back to reclaim the WWE Women’s Championship. Stratton comes to the ring and the two exchange words. Stratton says she’s not going to back down from a fight.

This brings out Naomi, who says Stratton and Jax made her life miserable for months, and she’s looking to get back in the title picture, and she won’t hesitate to put someone under a car to get it. Jade Cargill hits the ring, and the four women brawl. Aldis comes out and makes a tag match between the four women for later on tonight.

The Miz and Carmelo Hayes are backstage. Hayes hypes up Miz for his match against Aleister Black. That match is up next.

The Miz (w/ Carmelo Hayes) vs. Aleister Black

  • The finish of the match saw Aleister Black hit The Miz with Black Mass to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Aleister Black

After the match, Black has a staredown with Carmelo Hayes.

Grade: B

WWE hasn’t utilized The Miz as a credible top contender for years. However, they made Aleister Black work really hard to defeat him tonight. This match didn’t leave me overly hopeful of a big push in Black’s future.

Is Rey Fenix’s first WWE feud finally revealed?

Backstage, Rey Fenix is confronted by Santos Escobar. Escobar buries Fenix for losing to El Grande Americano at WrestleMania. Fenix wasn’t too bothered, however, and challenged him to a match later on tonight.

WWE Women’s United States Champion Zelina Vega vs. Piper Niven (w/ Chelsea Green and Alba Fyre)

  • The finish of the match saw a miscommunication between Piper Niven and Chelsea Green lead to Zelina Vega catching Niven in a rollup to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Zelina Vega

Grade: B

This was a solid win for Zelina Vega. The underdog fighting from underneath will basically be the theme of Vega’s title run. It was especially needed after her title win last week almost came across like a fluke. Furthermore, I don’t think her rivalry with Chelsea Green is going to end anytime soon.

A big match is announced for WWE Backlash

Nick Aldis is backstage with Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu discussing what went down earlier in the show. Aldis says that due to what happened tonight, Fatu will defend the United States Championship in a triple threat match against LA Knight and Damian Priest at Backlash.

Solo Sikoa says that since Drew McIntyre basically won the match last week, he should be the number one contender, not them. Aldis agrees and makes the match a fatal four-way instead. Fatu says he’s fine with that and to line them all up, and he’ll know them all down. Fatu leaves and Sikoa says he sees what Aldis doing trying to screw with Fatu. Aldis says he’s not, but Solo is.

Will Randy Orton win his 15th World Championship at Backlash?

Randy Orton makes his way to the ring to speak to the WWE Universe. Orton says he’s known from day one what type of person John Cena is. Orton says Cena is arrogant and selfish. The crowd chants Cena sucks. Orton says Cena is an entitled brat who gets whatever he wants and calls him a shiny new toy that the ultimate puppet master loved playing with.

Orton says Cena took advantage of the PG era by being a walking, talking cartoon character while he did everything he could to be himself. Randy says all Cena has cared about is his bottom line and his multi colored merchandise.

Randy Orton brings up the fact that Cena said last week he didn’t have kids because he had to raise the WWE fans. Orton says the only thing Cena has raised is the prices of his merchandise. Orton says he won’t question Cena’s hustle, but he’ll question his loyalty and respect. Randy says over his dead body he’ll let Cena ruin professional wrestling, and that Cena is just the latest legend he needs to put down.

Orton says he’s going to punt Cena in his LEGO-shaped head at Backlash.

After the commercial break, R-Truth comes up to Randy Orton backstage and tells him there’s no way he’s beating his childhood hero John Cena at Backlash. Orton starts to get heated, but Jimmy Uso shows up and calms things down. Jimmy tells Truth to stop playing around. Truth says Cena told him he’s the last real world champion, and he wouldn’t lie to him.

Rey Fenix vs. Santos Escobar

  • The finish of the match saw Rey Fenix hit Santos Escobar with top rope Meteora to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Rey Fenix

Grade: A-

This was easily the best thing on the show tonight so far. Happy to see a clean finish too, which seems to be a rarity nowadays.

Can anyone in tonight’s main event co-exist?

Byron Saxton is backstage with Tiffany Stratton and Jade Cargill. They bicker back and forth about staying out of each other’s way. Cargill says she is facing Nia Jax next week in a number one contender’s match. Stratton says that’s fine since she almost had Cargill beat last week, and if Cargill wins next week, she’ll just have to do it again.

Backstage, Santos Escobar is yelling at the Garzas for not being out there with him for his match with Rey Fenix tonight. Andrade interrupts and says Escobar doesn’t care about the Garzas and has no respect for their legacy. Escobar storms off and makes the Garzas leave with him.

Tiffany Stratton and Jade Cargill vs. Naomi and Nia Jax

  • The finish of the match saw Jade Cargill powerbomb Nia Jax to score the pinfall victory for her team.

Winners: Tiffany Stratton and Jade Cargill

Grade: B-

After the match, Cargill and Stratton play tug of war with the title. Naomi takes them both down and poses with the title as WWE SmackDown goes off the air.

WWE SmackDown Review:

This was a really lackluster show tonight. With Backlash right around the corner, I expected a lot more from tonight’s show. I figured WWE would want to put on a newsworthy show to prevent people from talking about all of the releases tonight, but it wasn’t meant to be. Overall, tonight’s show was just kinda there.

Grade: B-
