Kurt Angle Names Gunther As WWE’s Next Breakout Main Event Star

Kurt Angle calls WWE World Heavyweight Champion Gunther the company’s next top star.

Gunther, formerly known as WALTER, made his debut in 2019 with WWE NXT UK. Since then, The Ring General has held championship gold for most of his run in WWE, reigning as NXT UK Champion for 870 days, Intercontinental Champion for 666 days, and now holding the World Heavyweight Championship for over 250 days.

Gunther has dominated throughout his WWE career, and several legends have praised his work. WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle is the latest to express admiration, calling Gunther the next breakout main event star in WWE.

While speaking with Casino.org, Kurt Angle shared his thoughts on WWE’s next breakout main event star and named current World Heavyweight Champion Gunther as his pick. “I’ve got my sights on Gunther; I love that kid.”

“He has a lot of talent, and I think he’s going to be the next breakthrough star, where he’s main event 24/7. “He’s a solid technician, a great heel and I think he’s going to be the one we’re going to see a lot more of in the years to come in this business.”

Gunther reveals who convinced him to give WWE a shot after saying ‘no’ twice

Gunther recently shared that he turned down WWE on two separate occasions before finally agreeing to join the company. Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show while promoting his World Heavyweight Championship match against Jey Uso at WrestleMania 41.

He told Helwani he wasn’t initially interested in working for WWE until Triple H convinced him to make the move. “I always had a really good relationship with Hunter (Triple H),” Gunther said. “When WWE got in touch with me first, I wanted to go to New Japan. It was my thing. Like, I always wanted to be a wrestler in Japan, but they didn’t really (make the) move or say anything. And then WWE got in touch with me, and I kind of, like, waited it out a little bit because it’s always me. I don’t know.

“When there’s an opportunity and everybody jumps at it at the same time… it gives me a weird feeling. I was like, man, maybe I sit this out first and see how it goes. It worked out in the end, but Hunter was always the guy that said… ‘Hey man, I see a big future here for you and if you want to do it, then I’m on board.’”
