Kevin Owens Reacts To Being Body Shamed, Criticism That He ‘Doesn’t Look Like A Pro Wrestler’

Kevin Owens isn’t bothered by his critics judging him by his appearance.

Owens is a very accomplished pro wrestler. He’s a former WWE Universal and NXT Champion, multi-time Intercontinental and United States Champion, and a two-time WWE Tag Team Champion. Despite all of his accomplishments, Kevin Owens has been criticized for “not looking like a pro wrestler” over the years. This feedback has come from both fans and pro wrestling peers, including Jim Cornette and Vince Russo, who said Owens doesn’t look like a star.

None of this actually bothers Owens, however. Owens told Chris Van Vliet that he hears this same criticism all of the time. However, it’s not the insult people might think it is. Owens said he’s comfortable with how he looks, and thinks those critics are more bothered by his appearance than he is.

Kevin Owens isn’t insulted by what you think of his appearance

“Yeah, I mean, I still get it all the time. But really, the people that feel like that’s a knock or an insult, they’re just very stupid. I’m so comfortable with how I look. I always have been, which is probably what’s driven so many people crazy. Because my weight has fluctuated over the years for sure. There were times where I was much heavier than I am now and there are reasons for that. They’ll say, ‘Well, you weren’t working out enough. You were eating like sh*t.’ Yeah, that’s true, but it never hindered my work. So you might have not liked looking at me the way I looked at that point, but I was having killer matches either way, I was able to talk better than most people on the roster, and that never changed.”

Kevin Owens highlights the real problem with people criticizing people’s physiques

Owens said he’s lost weight recently, but the funny part is he actually hasn’t tried to. Owens said it might be his metabolism or he’s just more active, but he never “made a conscious choice to be heavier or be lighter or look better and man, that really drives a lot of people crazy.”

Kevin Owens also pointed out that people still criticize wrestlers that are in much better shape. He believes that if you’re someone that constantly criticizes someone else’s appearance, you might be the real problem.

“Yeah, maybe, I don’t know. I mean, it’s like everyone, there will be fans that will look at guys that are in incredible shape and still find something wrong. So yeah, some people are just born to discredit other people because of their own shortcomings, I guess. As stupid as it sounds, ‘Oh, they’re just jealous.’ There probably is something to that to a level. If you spend most of your time trying to tear other people down, even subconsciously, there’s kind of something with you that’s the problem.”

Owens recently announced he had to miss WrestleMania 41 due to a neck injury. Randy Orton was his scheduled opponent, but Orton’s status on the card is up in the air.
