AEW Dynasty Card

The announced card is as follows:

  • AEW World Championship: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Swerve Strickland
  • AEW Women’s World Championship: Timeless Toni Storm (c) vs. Megan Bayne
  • AEW International Championship: Kenny Omega (c) vs. Speedball Mike Bailey vs. Ricochet
  • AEW TNT Championship: Daniel Garcia (c) vs. Adam Cole
  • AEW World Tag Team Championship: The Hurt Syndicate (c) vs. Big Bill and Bryan Keith
  • AEW World Trios Championship: The Death Riders vs. Rated FTR
  • Ring of Honor World Championship Mask versus Title: Chris Jericho (c) vs. Bandido
  • Men’s Owen Hart Cup: Will Ospreay vs. Kevin Knight
  • Women’s Owen Hart Cup: Mercedes Moné vs. Julia Hart

AEW Dynasty: Zero Hour Results:

Lio Rush, Action Andretti, and Nick Wayne (w/ Mother Wayne and Kip Sabian) vs. Top Flight and AR Fox (w/ Leila Grey)

  • The finish of the match saw Mother Wayne get involved, which allowed Nick Wayne to hit AR Fox with Wayne’s World to score the pinfall victory for his team.

Winners: Nick Wayne, Lio Rush, and Action Andretti

Grade: B+

Fun Zero Hour match. A bit too much interference in the closing moments for my liking, but an enjoyable match regardless. Nick Wayne is really getting a chance to stand on his own right now without Christian Cage in the picture, but I’m sure he’ll be back on AEW programming soon.

Max Caster’s open challenge is answered by a returning Anthony Bowens.

Max Caster vs. Anthony Bowens (w/ Billy Gunn)

  • The finish of the match saw Anthony Bowens hit Max Caster with a running discus forearm to score the pinfall victory

Winner: Anthony Bowens

Grade: A+

As long as Max Caster continues to get squashed, it will continue to get an A+ from me. Beautiful return for Anthony Bowens, and he really let Caster have it. Great stuff!

It’s announced that the Owen Hart Cup match between Will Ospreay and Kevin Knight will open AEW Dynasty later tonight.

AEW Dynasty Results:

Men’s Owen Hart Cup Tournament: Will Ospreay vs. Kevin Knight

  • The finish of the match saw Will Ospreay hit Kevin Knight with a Hidden Blade to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Will Ospreay

After the match, Ospreay and Knight shake hands in a show of respect.

Grade: A+

This was a bit messier than I expected it to be. You could tell that Kevin Knight was a bundle of nerves early on, and just was a step off where he typically is. Will Ospreay had to wheel him in as the match went on, and once the two found a flow together, they didn’t look back. Great stuff!

AEW World Tag Team Championship: The Hurt Syndicate (c) (w/ MVP) vs. Big Bill and Bryan Keith

  • The finish of the match saw MJF interfere from the crowd and hit Big Bill with the Dynamite Diamond Ring. This allowed Bobby Lashley to hit Bryan Keith with a spear. Shelton Benjamin scored the pinfall victory for his team.

Winners: And still AEW World Tag Team Champions, The Hurt Syndicate

Grade: B

The match was fine, I guess. I have the same problem with this match as I did their match with The Outrunners at Revolution. The Hurt Syndicate should be walking over these low-level teams in AEW right now to build their dominance. They gave their opponents way too much two pay-per-views in a row now. Needing MJF to put away Bill and Keith is laughable to me. I didn’t have any real issues with the match itself, as far as the in-ring action, it’s really just about the booking.

Women’s Owen Hart Cup Tournament: Mercedes Moné vs. Julia Hart

  • The finish of the match saw Mercedes Moné catch Julia Hart in a seatbelt pin to pick up the victory.

Winner: Mercedes Moné

Grade: B+

This has a similar feel to the opening match for me. Julia Hart seemed a bit nervous for the one that led to some weird moments early on but I feel both women recovered nicely. The crowd was HOT for this one, and they really wanted to see Hart win. But to me, the Mercedes win was never in doubt.

AEW World Trios Championship: The Death Riders (c) vs. Rated FTR

  • The finish of the match saw Wheeler Yuta knock Cope into Dax Harwood. Yuta hits Harwood with the Busaiku knee to score the pinfall victory for his team.

Winners: And still AEW World Trios Champions, the Death Riders

After the match, Rated FTR embrace, but then Harwood attacks Cope and hits him with a piledriver. Wheeler pretends to be shocked and stop things, but ends up joining in, and they hit Cope with a Shatter Machine. They follow it up with a spike piledriver on a chair, followed by the conchairto. Cope is wheeled out on a stretcher.

Grade: B+

I thought this was a very fun trios match. I knew Rated FTR wasn’t winning and this team was going to explode afterward, but I was hoping I was wrong. FTR have officially turned heel, and I am anxious to see how Christian Cage will get inserted into all of this.

AEW Women’s World Championship: Timless Toni Storm (c) (w/ Luther) vs. Megan Bayne (w/ Penelope Ford)

  • The finish of the match saw Megan Bayne go for Fate’s Descent, but Toni Storm reversed it into a small package to retain her title.

Winner: And still AEW Women’s World Champion, Timeless Toni Storm

Grade: A

This was my favorite thing on the show so far. These two women beat the hell out of each other. They told an incredible back-and-forth story, and I was on the edge of my seat for the majority of this match. Storm didn’t win; she survived. Bayne might have lost, but she wasn’t hurt by this at all. Storm got a fluke win essentially to retain her title.

Men’s Owen Hart Cup Tournament: Kyle Fletcher (w/ Don Callis) vs. Mark Briscoe

  • The finish of the match saw Kyle Fletcher hit Mark Briscoe with a turnbuckle brainbuster to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Kyle Fletcher

Grade: A-

These two men do it to me every freaking time. Every time one of their matches is announced, I’m not particularly hyped for it. But by the time the match is over, I absolutely love it. I don’t think these two are capable of having a bad match together. Fabulous match!

Ring of Honor World Championship – Title versus Mask: Chris Jericho (c) vs. Bandido

  • The finish of the match saw Chris Jericho hit Bandido with a baseball bat with the referee’s back turned to retain his title. Bandido’s family showed Aubrey Edwards the bat at ringside and got the match restarted. Bandido hits Jericho with the 21Plex to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: And NEW Ring of Honor World Champion, Bandido

Grade: B+

I, for one, will say I’m thankful this title reign for Chris Jericho has come to an end. It hasn’t been great and has done absolutely nothing for the Ring of Honor brand. With any luck, they can begin booking weekly ROH TV on HonorClub around Bandido and give them something of more substance than just the Athena/Billie Starkz storyline. I know Tony wants to eventually get ROH a television deal, but to do that, they’re gonna have to start putting some effort into the weekly show they already have. It has to be more than their new version of AEW Dark.

That being said, AEW gave me quite the scare there for a minute with that Dusty finish, good grief! Happy for Bandido and his family.

AEW TNT Championship: Daniel Garcia (c) vs. Adam Cole

  • The finish of the match saw Adam Cole hit Daniel Garcia with the BOOM to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: And NEW AEW TNT Champion, Adam Cole

After the match, Cole and Garcia shake hands, and Garcia lifts Cole’s hand briefly in victory.

Grade: B+

This was the first match of the night where I wasn’t really confident about who was winning. Cole and Garcia told a good story throughout the match. Garcia’s over-aggression in the end, trying to injure Cole with a piledriver from the top rope, was his undoing. Cole finally holds an AEW title and it’s long overdue. If not for the injuries, it probably would have happened a while ago.

AEW International Championship: Kenny Omega (c) vs. Speedball Mike Bailey vs. Ricochet

  • The finish of the match saw Kenny Omega hit Ricochet with an avalanche One Winged Angel to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: And still AEW International Champion, Kenny Omega

After the match, Kazuchika Okada makes his way to the ring. Okada and Omega go face-to-face before Omega leaves the ring.

Grade: A+

This match was everything you’d expect from these three men. I definitely hope we get a singles match between Omega and Speedball sooner rather than later. Had AEW put this match in the main event slot, I don’t think anyone would have complained. It was that good. We also got another tease for Omega and Okada at All In. Everything about this was perfection!

AEW World Championship: Jon Moxley (c) (w/ Marina Shafir) vs. Swerve Strickland (w/ Prince Nana)

  • The finish of the match saw interference from the Death Riders, Hangman Page, and The Opps which led to Swerve Strickland hitting the Swerve Stomp on Jon Moxley, but before he could cover him the lights went out and when they came back on the Young Bucks were in the ring, they hit Strickland with the EVP Trigger and allowed Moxley to retain his title.

Winner: And still AEW World Champion, Jon Moxley

Grade: C-

We get shots of Swerve, Moxley, Hangman, and the Young Bucks as AEW Dynasty goes off the air.

AEW Dynasty Review:

This was such a great show, until the main event. I feel like AEW is stuck in Groundhog Day right now. They have pulled this stunt two pay-per-views in a row with Moxley. The final five minutes of the main event was an overbooked mess.

It really hurts the overall show in my mind because, as they always say in wrestling, you only remember the finish. And boy howdy, did that finish suck. I won’t penalize the overall show too harshly. But this was easily an A- to an A show before the main event. That finish drops it down into B territory for me.

Grade: B+
