‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey couldn’t have asked for a better introduction than the one he got in AEW.
Bailey recently spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard, who asked what match best represents what AEW fans can expect from him. Bailey is a near-20-year veteran, spending time on the indies and in TNA prior to arriving in AEW. “Speedball” said his answer might be a bit of a cop-out, but his debut match set the stage for what he brings to the company.
“I am sorry, this might be a cop-out answer, but I feel like my first match in AEW against The Beast Mortos was just the perfect showcase for ‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey. Right? [It’s me going] against a bigger opponent who’s also capable in the high-flying action department. And it is just the perfect back-and-forth,” Bailey explained.
“I got to do just enough of what I am capable of to show the audience, to give them a real taste of what I am all about,” Bailey continued. “But still, leave so much on the table for the future. And I couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to AEW Dynamite.”
Bailey has had six matches in AEW so far, including a very impressive showing at AEW Dynasty. His last match was a win in the $400,000 Prize Fight on the April 9 episode of AEW Dynamite. As a result, AEW aired funny segments featuring Bailey and his teammates trying to find ways to spend their prize money. Mark Briscoe has made moves to diversify his portfolio, while Bailey looked for shoes, and Kevin Knight said he was eager to go get wings at Magic City.
