The latest episode of Stephanie’s Places is available today on ESPN+. This week, Stephanie McMahon travels into WCW territory alongside WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.
Rhodes welcomed McMahon into the historic Center Stage venue in Atlanta, which played home to WCW Saturday Night. It was also a destination, they joke, which was once forbidden for a McMahon to step foot into. The famed venue is described as a place where Cody Rhodes began to fall in love with pro wrestling. He pointed to where he’d sit as his father, Dusty Rhodes, worked and recalled watching acts like the Road Warriors, Randy Savage, and Steve Austin.
The episode also focuses on Rhodes, his winding path to superstardom, creating a “wrestling alternative”, and eventually returning home to WWE. McMahon and Rhodes discuss the parallels of his father never winning the WWWF championship. Rhodes also reflected on the doubt that crept in following WrestleMania 39.
In a sneak peek into the episode, we’re able to share footage of Cody Rhodes reflecting on what winning the championship at WrestleMania 40 meant to him. Cody noted that to this day, he still simply wants to do what his father did. By winning the WWE title that night from Roman Reigns, he got to achieve one of his career goals in Philadelphia.
