Mick Foley Highlights How Much Hell In A Cell Has Elevated His Career And Life

Mick Foley is once again looking back on his iconic Hell in a Cell match with The Undertaker.

Back in 1998, Foley as Mankind wrestled The Undertaker in arguably WWE’s most famous match ever. This was the second-ever Hell in a Cell match and the two men did all they could to outdo the first one, which involved the Deadman and Shawn Michaels.

They somehow surpassed the original. The bout is famous for Mick Foley being thrown from the top of the cage through the announce desk, before getting up again and being chokeslammed through the roof of the cage as well.

The match is the focus of the latest episode of Dark Side of the Ring. Because of this, Mick Foley spoke with Forbes about the iconic match. The former WWE Champion hadn’t watched the match back until recently, revealing that it still “packs an emotional punch” after nearly 30 years.

He also added that his career wouldn’t have had the same career without the match. He noted that Hell In A Cell elevated him into the spot he is currently in his life and career.

“I hadn’t watched the match in its entirety until a few weeks before I went on that tour,” Mick Foley said. “What I told people every stop, I said if you haven’t seen it, watch it because it really packs an emotional punch.

“All these years here and it packs an emotional punch in a way that the clips don’t convey. In its entirety, it’s still really powerful and it’s still very different than any other match that’s ever taken place.”

“It wouldn’t be the same. It really put an exclamation point on my career. I’m really fortunate to go around and do these Comic-Cons and I can do a one-man show on my own and have really enjoyable good years. I don’t know if I could do that. I think that match elevated me to a spot that otherwise I would not have had,” Mick Foley added.

Dark Side of the Ring co-creator Evan Husney spoke with WrestleZone about focusing on Foley’s role in the match. He also believes the Hell In A Cell match is worthy of its own Hall Of Fame induction, highlighting what made it transcend wrestling.
