Nic Nemeth thinks Randy Orton could help to elevate the World Heavyweight Championship.
At Bash in Berlin later this month, Orton will challenge Gunther for the title. If he wins, it would hand the Viper his 15th world title. It would also make him the fifth man to hold the belt, following Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre, Damian Priest and Gunther.
However, the title has been viewed as a “consolation prize” by many. It was introduced during Roman Reigns‘ lengthy reign as both WWE and Universal Champion. It came with the perception that the holder was a tier below Roman Reigns.
Randy Orton could be the man to change that view, according to Nic Nemeth. Him winning could help make the title on par with the WWE Championship.
Nic Nemeth spoke about Randy Orton potentially winning the World Heavyweight Championship from Gunther. He noted that it would help elevate the title. It could also get rid of the perception that it is a “consolation prize” to the WWE Championship.
“It isn’t the worst possible thing to have, like, ‘Hey, Randy Orton holds this up and it counts as one of his world titles.” Nic Nemeth said.
“That would be something to like, ‘Hey, man, that’s no longer a consolation prize to anybody,’ even the sharpest critics, they’ve made it into something because of their long-term booking,”
Nic Nemeth added that some people view the belt as the “Intercontinental Championship Plus.” Giving Randy Orton a 15th World Championship reign would help bring some more prestige to the World Heavyweight Championship.
However, despite Nic Nemeth’s idea, it seems unlikely they’d have Gunther lose at Bash in Berlin. Given his extreme popularity in Germany and how short his reign has been so far, he will be the favorite in that match against Randy Orton.
