Darby Allin recently reflected on his 2021 match with a then-debuting, then-All Elite Wrestling superstar CM Punk, and called it one of his favorite moments in his career.
Speaking to Kenny McIntosh of Inside The Ropes, Allin looked back on his match, which was also Punk’s first time in the ring since his seven-year hiatus from the world of wrestling. As he remembers it, Allin was extremely nervous, with his longtime partner Sting even saying a prayer for him.
“That was very insane. In an interview recently he said that was his favourite moment in AEW. I just remember how insane that day was and just everything that was going on,” said Allin. “I was the most nervous I’ve ever been for a match, because I was like, oh man, I never thought this guy is going to return to wrestling and then you’re having his first match back.”
Later in the interview, Allin also reflected on seeing Punk recently, and the two looking back on their match.
“Then he said the prayer, we went out there, and we had such a fun time. It was so fun working with Punk, it was really cool. I saw him a few weeks ago, it was fun to just catch up and be like, thank you for kind of giving me that opportunity to be the first guy to bring you out of, I’m not gonna say retirement, but you know what I mean, whatever hiatus he was on from the world of pro wrestling. So it was really cool.”
