Santos Escobar earned a shot at the WWE United States Championship on WWE SmackDown.
On the August 9 episode of WWE SmackDown, Santos Escobar faced Andrade in a Number One Contender’s Match for the WWE United States Championship. In the end, Escobar emerged victorious, thanks to some help from Carmelo Hayes’ interference.
With the win, Escobar earned a shot at WWE United States Champion LA Knight. Ahead of his match against Andrade, he confronted Knight and told him that he would just be the opening act for his own reign.
Here’s how the match broke down, courtesy of our play-by-play coverage:
Andrade rallies. He hits a sunset flip powerbomb. He hits a dragon screw and a forearm. Escobar rolls out of the ring, and Andrade dives onto him. Andrade keeps rolling, and he hits Escobar with three suplexes in a tribute to Eddie Guerrero. Escobar takes control again. Andrade catches Escobar with a dropkick and gets a two-count with a moonsault. Andrade hits a back elbow for a two-count. Carmelo Hayes runs in and interferes. Escobar rolls up Andrade for the win.
LA Knight won the WWE United States Championship at WWE SummerSlam. There, he defeated Logan Paul.
As of this writing, there is no word on when Escobar will challenge Knight for the WWE United States Championship. WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
