Mark Shapiro Says WWE-Netflix Deal is All About Discovery

TKO President thinks WWE‘s deal with Netflix will attract new viewers who will watch the product once it arrives on the streaming service.

During TKO’s quarterly financials call, TKO President Mark Shapiro said that people shouldn’t “underestimate” the Netflix and WWE move, as it’s going to do a lot for discovery. (H/t Jeremy Lambert of Fightful for the transcription)

“Don’t underestimate the Netflix play,” Shapiro said. “In the sense that, the Netflix deal for WWE is all about discovery. New audiences, new viewership, casual viewers. You’re going to go to that front page and WWE is going to be right there being promoted and marketed. That’s a whole new audience for us. The folks who are already fans of WWE, they will follow. It will be an appointment. Netflix will serve to be a real discovery platform with us. Specifically, that will help us when it comes to site fees and sponsorship.”

WWE and Netflix’s deal is reportedly valued at around at $5 billion, and will see Netflix become the home for WWE Raw in the U.S., Canada, Latin America, and the U.K. Internationally, Netflix will also be the home for all WWE shows and specials beginning in 2025. For those in the U.S., Peacock will still be the home of mostly all things WWE, at least until 2026, when their deal is set to expire.
