CM Punk doesn’t want everybody to start swearing when WWE moves to Netflix.
The WWE signed a $5 Billion deal with Netflix to show Raw, starting in 2025. This includes all WWE programming being shown worldwide, in a massive streaming deal.
CM Punk spoke with SI Media With Jimmy Traina about the Netflix. He said he doesn’t want everybody to start cursing and bleeding every show, because it wont mean anything.
He added that the reach of Netflix will be huge for the company, with billions of potential viewers ready to watch the WWE.
“I feel like we’re pushing the envelope now.” CM Punk said. “I don’t want people to use Netflix as a crutch to say the F-word. That’s immediately where everybody goes, ‘Oh, we’re gonna get this swear,’. It’s just like, no, because then if everybody swears, it doesn’t mean anything. If everybody’s throwing the bird, it doesn’t mean anything. If every show somebody’s bleeding and they fall off a building, it doesn’t mean anything.”
“The only thing that excites me about Netflix is what should excite everybody about Netflix: we are going to be seen by billions more people. It’s unfathomable, I think, to a lot of people what the Netflix deal means to a wrestler in WWE. USA Network has broadcasted professional wrestling for WWE for decades; Raw has always been on USA.” He added.
“So for it to go to a streaming service where, like, you know, I don’t have the USA Network app on my phone, but I have the Netflix app on my phone, and I guarantee you it’s like that worldwide. So we are going to have doors kicked in, in a lot of different markets, in a lot of different countries all over the world. And to me, that’s exciting.”
