CM Punk: I Tend To Say How I Feel, A Lot Of People Don’t Like That

CM Punk comments on being a polarizing person in the wrestling world.

Controversy often surrounds CM Punk. This has remained true since he returned to WWE at WWE Survivor Series 2023. Punk has been feuding with Drew McIntyre throughout 2024, and McIntyre has frequently brought up Punk’s past.

Speaking on ESPN’s First Take, CM Punk was asked about Drew McIntyre saying that he was not a leader.

“I never claimed to be one [laughs]. I’m just trying to do my job, I’m just trying to wrestle, and I don’t know,” he said. “I’m very polarizing for some odd reason. [Asked why] I tend to say how I feel, to a fault. I stand up for myself.  A lot of people don’t like that. There’s always friction. I will be as polite and as kind to anybody as I possibly can, and when they step out of line, I’m kind of the guy who checks them.”

CM Punk On His 2014 Exit

CM Punk previously left WWE in 2014. The company was quite different back then, as Vince McMahon was still at the helm. Years later, WWE is in the midst of a new era under Triple H and Nick Khan.

Speaking with Ringside Collectibles at San Diego Comic-Con, Punk agreed that WWE was quite different now. He noted that he would not have left if the company had been this way in 2014.

“Yeah, absolutely, to a point where I almost don’t like talking about it because everyone thinks I’m just toeing the company line,” CM Punk said. “But no, if this place was the way it was now, I wouldn’t have left ten years ago. That’s the most basic way I can explain it.”

Punk will face McIntyre at WWE SummerSlam on August 3.
