Goldberg Says Tony Khan Reminds Him Of Dixie Carter, He Wanted To Be Part Of Sting’s Retirement

Goldberg revealed how talks with Tony Khan went.

It was previously reported that the former WCW Champion had held talks with Tony Khan about appearing in AEW. While these ended up not amounting to much, there have always been rumors about him showing up in AEW one day.

However, it doesn’t seem like the pair were close to hashing out a deal.

Goldberg appeared on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, where he was asked why he couldn’t agree on a deal with AEW. He said he has different perspectives on wrestling to Tony Khan, comparing him to former TNA boss Dixie Carter.

“I think we have a different perspective on it. I think, um, I don’t know. It’s hard for me to really pass judgment on their production because I don’t watch it,” Goldberg stated. “I see clips of it, um, and it’s hard to give a rational breakdown of how they are if I don’t really watch it, so, um, I don’t really know.

“He reminds me of Dixie Carter, but a male version. I don’t know if it’s a good or a bad thing,” he continued. “But he reminds me of that scenario. And it’s just a different feel. It’s just different.”

Goldberg Wanted To Be Part Of Sting’s Retirement In AEW

Goldberg continued. He revealed he wasn’t ever close to making a deal to appear in AEW.

However, he said that the proposition was more realistic when Sting was part of the promotion. The iconic wrestler retired in February this year, and Goldberg wanted to be a part of his last match. However, he knew he couldn’t overshadow Sting, so didn’t push the matter.

“I don’t think I was ever close to making a deal with him. I think it was much more a realistic transition when Sting was involved,” Goldberg added. “That’s why I reached out to Sting—because I wanted to be a part of it. I thought he and I could do a farewell thing at some point together. But it wasn’t about me; it was about Sting, and I didn’t want to overshadow anything that he does. I didn’t want to convolute the waters. It would have been a nice crescendo, but it wasn’t about me, so the timing was kind of off on that.”
