Goldberg doesn’t think any wrestlers are truly retired until they die.
The WWE Hall of Famer hasn’t wrestled since a clash with Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber 2022. He was reportedly interested in a retirement match with Sting in Israel, although that never materialized.
Goldberg recently spoke with Chris Van Vliet, and was asked if he is retired from wrestling now. The former WCW Champion revealed that he doesn’t think a wrestler is retired until he’s dead, and feels like he was forced into retirement by the WWE.
While he doesn’t think he’s retired, Goldberg did note that he has dropped thirty pounds and doesn’t spend as much time in the gym anymore. This is because he is busy supporting his son’s dream of playing football and baseball in college.
“You know, when you have been a wrestler at some point in your life, I don’t think you’re retired until you’re dead. I mean, I don’t know, I was kind of forced into retirement a little bit. I don’t like to think that I’m retired in any respect. Whether it’s from working, wrestling, or anything else.”
“I’ve kind of been hiding out here on the ranch for the past four or five years. Investing 100% of my time, effort, and emotion into our son Gage. Trying to prepare him for his journey off to college because it’s such a transitional time in a kid’s life.”
Goldberg: I’ve Lost 30lbs in Five Years
Goldberg continued. He revealed that he’s lost 30lbs while helping his son get bigger. He even lost access to his own gym in the process.
However, he notes that is what it’s for, and he’s giving all his time to helping his son live his dreams.
“Yeah, I’ve kind of been on the shelf. The example I can give people is when Wanda cooks dinner, and it’s steak night. We have six steaks to eat, she gets one, I get one, and Gage gets whatever’s left, which is like four of them.”
“While I’m eating my one, if he’s eaten those four and he looks hungry, then I’ll cut mine in half and give it to him. So, I’ve lost probably 30 pounds in five years. I haven’t been able to come to the gym too much. He’s always up here with his buddies, and they’re doing their thing. But that’s what this is for.”
