Bryan Danielson Confirms His AEW Wrestling Contract Expires On August 1

Bryan Danielson is wondering what’s next.

Danielson has been on record as saying 2024 will be the last year he will be a full-time wrestler. In the past, Danielson has explained that his decision to scale back is due to wanting to spend more time at home with his family. Danielson will likely stay involved in pro wrestling in some capacity, but it will be a reduced role.

AEW aired an extended version of Danielson’s interview with Renee Paquette that originally aired on the July 24 episode of AEW Dynamite. The extended cut features Danielson confirming his “wrestling contract” will expire on August 1, which happens to be the same day as his son Buddy’s birthday.

“Yeah, that’s true,” Bryan Danielson said. “August 1, actually. Next Thursday, my wrestling contract is up, which also happens to be my son’s fourth birthday.”

Paquette asked what it meant for his career. He said he still has to focus on AEW All In at Wembley Stadium, but he’s curious about what comes next.

“I’m not MJFing this”

“So I’m not saying this — like Tony [Khan] talked about this in an interview, so I feel comfortable talking about it. I’m not MJFing this and trying to be like using, ‘My contract is up and I’m going to get all the money! Somebody give me all the money!’ No, my contract is up August 1. When I signed this contract, me and Brie talked about how this would be the last wrestling contract I was going to sign,” he continued. “Part of me is like wondering what life is like after this, part of me is excited. And right now, even though Wembley is after this, I still have to focus on that. That’s got to be my focus, so yeah, it’s a wild time. It’s a wild time.”

Danielson is expected to stay with AEW in a non-wrestling capacity, too. Tony Khan has said that Danielson has plans to be with AEW for a long time, and hopes he stays as long as possible.
