Jinder Mahal Didn’t Ask WWE For Release, Knew He Needed To Do Something Else After Signing Last Contract

Jinder Mahal did not ask for his WWE release.

The former WWE Champion was released by the company earlier this year. He was let go alongside a number of talents in April this year, including Cameron Grimes and Xia Li.

He didn’t ask for his release, but did discuss his future with the WWE prior to the announcement. Jinder signed a five-year deal with the WWE in 2019, so leaving in 2019 was not a big surprise for him.

Jinder Mahal appeared on Insight With Chris Van Vliet after his 90-day notice period with WWE ran out.

“We didn’t ask. It was just kind of like, ‘Hey, if there’s no plans, then we can discuss going our separate ways.’ Actually, my contract was signed for five years in April 2019, but they had added on 18 months for injury time. That was what was remaining on my contract. When I signed for those five years, I had already kind of told myself, ‘Hey, after these five years, I need to go do something else.'”

Jinder Mahal: He Is More Of A Man Than In 2014 Release

Jinder Mahal continued. He was asked how different he is compared to his previous release in 2014. The former WWE Champion noted that it is much different, due to the point he is in his life.

He added that he’s been a WWE Champion and been at WrestleMania now, as well as being more financially stable compared to last time.

“This one is much different. I am a grown man now. I’ll be turning 38 the day after this interview airs. So, yeah, it’s just that I’m at a different point in my life. I’m at peace with it. I’ve had a great career. At the time when I got released, the best thing I had done was being in 3MB. Now, I’ve been a WWE Champion, I’ve been in WrestleMania, I’ve headlined pay-per-views, I’ve done everything. I’ve travelled the world, and I’m in a different place financially. So, yeah, a lot has changed.”
