Oba Femi: NXT Stand & Deliver Match Was A ’10 Star’ Match

Oba Femi thinks very highly of his match at NXT Stand & Deliver 2024.

In Philadelphia on WrestleMania weekend this year, the NXT North American Champion defended his title in a fantastic three-way bout. He faced DIJAK and Josh Briggs in a triple threat match, which personified the “Big Meaty Men Slapping Meat” meme.

It was an all-action match which gave the audience no time to take a breath. All three went all out, with some incredible feats of strength by the Nigerian champion. Oba Femi retained his title, and thinks the match should be viewed as a 10-star match.

Oba Femi spoke to The A Show on RNC RADIO. He was asked about the match and how he feels about the triple threat at WrestleMania weekend. The NXT North American champion replied that he thinks the bout was a 10-star match, calling himself “Oba Meltzer” as a play on Dave Meltzer’s name.

He explained that the match didn’t have much build-up. Oba Femi noted that the lack of build meant the end result was even more impressive. If they’d had even more time to tell a good story, he thinks he could have been even better.

“Personally, I think that’s a 10-star match. Let me tell you why. Going into that one, there wasn’t much build-up or history or anything like that. Just intrinsically, on its own, it was a standalone good match. Now, can you imagine if we had seven, eight, nine weeks to tell a good story? That’s why I strongly believe that it’s a 10-star match. It didn’t have any backbone or hind legs to stand on. Just on its own, it was a very, very good match. Oba Meltzer is here!”

Oba Femi on getting called up to the main roster

Oba Femi is just starting his career in NXT. However, fans already speculate about when he’ll be called up to the main roster. Big E sees a main roster world title in Femi’s future, but he is focused on the now. Femi appreciates the recognition, but he is enjoying the moment in NXT.

“I 100% subscribe to that. I believe very much in the now. In the moment, in the title reign. In the North American Championship, in the feud with Wes Lee, because that’s what’s going on now. Because when people start thinking about call-ups, they start to tunnel-vision their own progress,” he pointed out. They forget about all the steps, and the corners, and the dips, and the highs that they have to go through to get to the end of the tunnel. And I don’t like to do that.

“And as far as the fans wanting me to get called up soon, I appreciate that,” he added. “I mean, of course, it is a good thing that people think of me as that caliber of talent. That is great. And I do believe I am too. But I believe in the now. I believe in elevating this title. I believe in making whatever feud I am in, the best it can possibly be. And I am all about making the next match better than the last.”
