Matt Cardona says he wants to face John Cena, and with the way WWE is now, he believes that it could happen.
Since John Cena announced his upcoming retirement, various stars have expressed their interest in facing him during his retirement tour. Matt Cardona, formerly known as Zack Ryder, has made it clear that he wants to face Cena.
Speaking with Scott Fishman for SEScoops, Matt Cardona was asked to comment on John Cena’s retirement and whether he wanted to face him.
“John, I’ve looked up to John for a long time,” Matt Cardona said. “We did get close during my WWE run, but he is just a pro’s pro. What a way to go out. What a smart way to go out, huh? A whole year plus, because he’s hyping it up in July? I’m just thinking the merch, he already had the merch ready. John is such a great guy, somebody who’s definitely helped me in my career.
“Those posts I’ve been making on social media, they’re not BS. I would love to wrestle John Cena one last time. I think, with the way WWE is now, I think it’s something that could happen, where I could just walk in, whether it be for one day or make a return.”
Matt Cardona: There’s A Story For Potential Match With John Cena
Matt Cardona continued by noting that there was definitely a story for his potential match against John Cena. He reiterated that he wanted the match, and he expressed his confidence that he would get a reaction.
“I think Zack Ryder versus John Cena, those matches were fine, they were what they were,” Matt Cardona said. “But John Cena versus Matt Cardona, that’s where the story is because you could play it so many different ways. Matt Cardona could say, ‘John, you’re the reason my WWE career didn’t take off.’
“There’s so many things that we could play into. I know that if I walked through the doors of WWE, surprise or not, I’d get a reaction. I know that if I come out, I know I’d get a reaction, I know it’d be great. So I think John Cena versus Matt Cardona would be magical, and I’m very happy he gets to go out on his own terms.”
As Cardona noted, he has been teasing his interest in the match on social media, as seen in the post below.
