Utami Hayashishita said she will have the greatest match in women’s wrestling history against WWE’s IYO SKY at Marigold Summer Destiny 2024.
The Red Queen recently spoke with Tokyo Sports to give her thoughts on the upcoming match between herself and IYO SKY. Utami has long been vocal about her respect for IYO. She has mentioned on countless occassions that the latter inspired her to become a professional wrestler herself. She began her wrestling training just as IYO SKY had signed with WWE and moved to America.
Though the pressure remains high for Utami to represent Marigold against the returning IYO, she stays confident in her ability to put on a competitive matchup. “This is a battle between an American star and a Japanese star. It will be the best match in the past and future of women’s professional wrestling. And I will make it a historic match,” she says.
Utami Hayashishita also expressed gratitude over the public’s response and anticipation for their singles match. My family is overjoyed. When the match was decided, I was nervous and happy at first to be fighting someone I look up to. But recently I’ve been doing more muscle training and practicing. And I’ve been watching videos every day to plan my strategy for how to beat IYO SKY,” she adds.
IYO SKY has not wrestled in Japan for a little over six years. She joined WWE as a full-time competitor back in 2018 following her run in the second Mae Young Classic tournament.
The match between Utami and IYO takes place Saturday, July 13th, at the Ryōgoku Kokugikan Sumo Hall in Tokyo, Japan for Marigold Summer Destiny.
