Swerve Strickland Silenced His Critics, Proved Himself Right (Again) With Will Ospreay Win

Swerve Strickland has proved the doubters wrong once again.

The AEW Champion defended his title against Will Ospreay at Forbidden Door. Despite Ospreay being undefeated since going full-time in AEW, he managed to pin the Englishman at the end of a fantastic match at the UBS arena.

Renee Paquette asked Swerve Strickland at the Forbidden Door post-show media scrum how he was feeling about retaining his title. He said it was humbling, but also a good feeling that he continued to prove people wrong about his title reign.

“It’s humbling.” Swerve Strickland said. “But at the same time, it’s like me proving to everybody that I was right again. It’s one of those things I gotta constantly go out there and fight for every week, every day. It’s like, that’s what it’s like. This man once said, being part of AEW is just constantly, you’re always fighting, you’re always defending. And I relate to that so much because I’ve been doing that my whole career. People think I’m good to a certain level, or the expectations of me are always getting lower and lower until I break through, and then they have to create another ceiling.”

“And so, I feel like me and Will, we have this chip on our shoulder to just constantly prove why this place is special. We are so competitive in every aspect of this game, and that’s why I’ve always respected him. You know, I still respected him all the way up to this match. I have my methods; I get into people’s heads, and that’s kind of like my boxing mentality. I want to get into your head, and I’ll poke at every part of you until I get you where I need you to be. That’s what got me the win tonight. But definitely, I feel like I silenced a lot of critics.”
