Buddy Matthews appeared to injure his knee in the main event of AEW Collision Saturday night against Bullet Club Gold.
While the injury seemed legit at the moment, the post-match angle with The Patriarchy threw its legitimacy into question.
In an update from Mike Johnson of PWInsider, the injury to Matthews on Saturday night was “100% a storyline work.”
Johnson went on to state that the injury angle was done so that Matthews could return to Australia with his wife, WWE Superstar Rhea Ripley, to attend a family event.
There is currently no word on when Matthews is expected to return to AEW programming. It will be interesting to see what the plans look like for a possible feud between House of Black and Christian Cage’s Patriarchy in the coming weeks.
