Damian Priest says CM Punk will need to earn a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship.
The World Heavyweight Champion defeated Drew McIntyre at Clash of the Castle, with the help of CM Punk. The former AEW Champion appeared in a referee shirt, counting to two before flipping off Drew McIntyre. This gave McIntyre the visual win in his hometown, before losing to Damian Priest thanks to Punk.
This continued the feud between McIntyre and Punk, with Priest happy to walk out of Glasgow still World Heavyweight Champion.
Damian Priest spoke in the Clash at the Castle post show press conference about Punk. He said he had no idea Punk was going to be involved in the match, and did not plan for Punk’s assistance.
He also noted that, despite the high level CM Punk is performing at the moment, he still neds to earn his shot at the world title.
“I had no idea he was going to get involved. I found out literally as I was walking out and I was told in the back what happened.”
“As far as him being back, it’s fine, he’s a huge star. We all know his resume. When he is back healthy, if he can perform still at the high level and he earns his way, I would love to share the ring with him. He’s going to have to earn it, because I am the world champ.”
Despite the impressive win, Damian Priest may not be champion for much longer. Seth Rollins returned on Raw, with the former champion challenging him for his title at Money in the Bank.
