AJ Styles wants “The Final Boss.”
Following his interference in the WWE WrestleMania 40 main event, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson informed fans that he had to “go away for a little while,” referring to his ongoing commitments outside of the wrestling realm. Before he left WWE, though, The Rock asserted that he’d return there sometime in the future, and that WrestleMania 40 marked only beginning of the “Final Boss Cinema.”
Whenever The Rock does come back, he vowed to settle his unfinished business with newly-crowned Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. Beyond that, The Rock also has an ardent first-time opponent waiting in the wings.
While speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, former WWE Champion AJ Styles expressed interest in facing The Rock, under one condition.
“Of course, I’m interested–but only if that means The Rock is turning babyface,” Styles said. “I’m not interested in being a mediocre bad guy. I want to bring this to a whole new level.”
Initially brought back to WWE as a babyface, The Rock later turned heel in the lead-up to WrestleMania 40. Through this transition, The Rock revived attributes that mirrored that of his former “Hollywood Rock” persona. In this iteration, though, The Rock’s cunning and crude attitude led him to dub himself as “The Final Boss.”
Similarly, AJ Styles returned to WWE last December as a babyface. In the weeks following, though, it became clear that Styles had underwent an attitude change, specifically one rooted in an elevated aggression.
