Will Ospreay is retiring the Storm Driver 91.
At AEW Dynasty, Will Ospreay scored a thrilling win against Bryan Danielson. At the end of the bout, Ospreay hit the Storm Driver 91, and Danielson seemingly suffered an injury. Officials checked on him after the bell, but his status was unclear.
Will Ospreay subsequently kicked off his portion of the AEW Dynasty post-show scrum by addressing the injury scare.
“I’m super glad that everybody enjoyed the match,” Will Ospreay said. “A little bit of a dampener on how it’s all kind of, the dust has settled now. I’ve reviewed the footage myself. It seemed that Bryan got hurt on the Storm Driver, and I didn’t see the doctor call. The referee called for the doctor, and I didn’t see it. So I want to apologize on that.
“Obviously, within the confines of wrestling, I do go, like I said, in the ring, it is more or less, it’s your life versus mine until you kind it see it staring at you in the face of what I did. Honestly, I feel awful about this. So even though 90% of the time that move’s been absolutely fine, seeing the damage that it’s kind of done, I’m gonna retire using the Storm Driver 91.”
Will Ospreay Apologizes
Will Ospreay went on to say that he did not think it was right for him to keep using the move after seeing what it did to Danielson. He reiterated that he was sorry, and he stated that he was disappointed in himself.
“I don’t think it’s right for me to continue using it after seeing what it did to Bryan, someone that I’ve got huge amounts of respect for,” Will Ospreay said. “This was kind of my dream match, this was something that I wanted since I was a kid. So to see the outcome, although I’m happy everyone enjoyed the match, I’m kind of disappointed to myself. So o de again, I apologize to Bryan, I apologize to AEW medics, I apologize to Tony.”
Tony Khan then said that he thought Danielson would be okay. WrestleZone will provide more information on Danielson’s status as it becomes available.
