Former AEW World Champion Kenny Omega praised John Cena.
Kenny Omega and John Cena have rarely crossed paths, as Omega has become one of AEW’s top stars while Cena, a 16-time world champion, was the face of WWE before he transitioned into his Hollywood career,
Speaking on a recent Twitch stream, Kenny Omega noted that he had not met Cena, but he thought highly of him. He stated that Cena was a great example for a face of a company. (H/t Jeremy Lambert of Fightful for the transcription)
“No, I have not [met Cena], but I think he’s great,” Kenny Omega said. “Great professional wrestler. He’s done an incredible amount for the business, I don’t think anyone will be able to match anytime soon. The reason why is because Cena wasn’t doing anything for the sake of an accomplishment or trophy or recognition. People went out of their way after the fact to say, ‘look at all this stuff John is doing in his off time.’
“Maybe he even laughs at it himself. But for the amount of effort he has put in to make people’s lives better, whether it be Make A Wish, fans at the arenas, or autograph signings, it’s a great example for what the face of a company should be or for the face of the industry. I’m a very big proponent of John Cena. I think he’s incredible.”
Kenny Omega is currently sidelined as he continues to recover from diverticulitis. It is not known when he will return to the ring.
John Cena is currently absent from WWE as well. He has said that he has not been invited to WrestleMania 40 yet. However, he has said that he is free that day.
